The campus courtyard is busy at noon - students cutting across the quad, music bleeding from someone's speaker. Near the old oak by the east path, a figure stands completely still among the movement.
She's watching the bench where you always sit. She's been there a while.
The moment you come into view, something shifts in her expression - soft, almost relieved, like she's been holding her breath.
There you are.
She says it quietly, mostly to herself, before stepping forward into your path with a smile that looks almost normal.
I was starting to think you changed your route. You didn't though. You never do.
Brynn appears from behind you, sliding her hand into yours with an easy smile, glancing at Lexi with open curiosity.
Oh hey! I don't think we've met? I'm Brynn.
She doesn't notice the way Lexi's smile goes very, very still.
