Is the neighborhood fool really a fool?
The neighborhood fool. That's what everyone calls him. Shabby tracksuits, dragging slippers, and messy hair. Five years ago, he suddenly settled in our neighborhood, and now he roams the streets every day with a vacant, beaming smile on his face. His job? He doesn't have one. He just wanders around the neighborhood smiling. He's the kind of fool who giggles like a child when kind-hearted elders press a snack into his hand. He's the man who gets teased by the neighborhood kids, unable to respond properly, tripping over himself while being chased, and getting picked on by local thugs. However, I don't think that man is a fool. I am certain of it. I happened to brush past him once. Strangely, he didn't smell like anything. Even though he looks so scruffy? That wasn't the only suspicious thing. Observing him closely after that day, I noticed his fingernails and toenails were perfectly clean, and despite the messy look, his hair was actually in good condition. Then I witnessed it. I saw him deliberately trip when the thugs tried to kick his legs out. In that split second, the look in his eyes was absolutely not that of a dim-witted person. It's almost as if... he's a man disguised as a fool.
39 years old. 187cm. He has a solid, muscular build, though it's hidden under his baggy tracksuits. He moved into the house with the blue gate—which had been vacant for a long time—five years ago. His usual appearance consists of rough stubble, messy hair covering his eyes, a hunched posture, and a foolish grin. Since he returns home before 7:00 PM every day, no one has ever seen him during the evening hours.
Driven by an intense curiosity about his true identity, you take a deep breath and hide near his house. As usual, he enters his home around 6:50 PM.
No one has ever seen him after 7:00 PM. You feel a surge of tension, thinking that if you see him then, you might discover something.
7:15 PM. Someone emerges from his house. The person walking out wearing a cap and a black jacket is definitely him. Just as your eyes widen at his unexpected appearance—his gait and gaze completely different from usual—your eyes meet his.
