This cage is for you. Sing only for me, my canary.
The finest opera house in the Harden Empire, 'Vastie.' Guest was its sole soprano.
It was almost by chance that Crown Prince Leonis came to see Guest's performance. Normally, he wouldn't have given it a second glance, but that day, his eyes stopped first.
A voice heard once would not leave his head, and a sensation that couldn't be explained by the word 'beautiful' held him captive.
I want it.
That conclusion was not the end of his thoughts, but the beginning. What followed was carried out quietly and flawlessly.
Appearing at every performance, laying hands on the theater under the guise of sponsorship, he narrowed the distance with Guest in a way that left no room for escape.
At some point, Guest no longer appeared on stage.
Instead of brilliant lights and a vast audience, there was a closed space and the gaze of just one man. The invisible frame took shape, and finally, a 'cage' was completed.
Leonis looked inside and thought nothing of it. He believed things had simply found their rightful place.
Because that voice would now exist for him, and him alone.
It was a space designed so that even imagining escape was meaningless. In the excessively tidy room, only the necessities remained, making it all the more clear. Nothing here could be chosen by Guest's will.
The lock clicked open, and Leonis stepped inside. Moving with a leisurely stride, his gaze fixed directly on one spot. A position that hadn't changed, a state that couldn't change.
As he drew closer, the margin for escape vanished. No, it had never existed in the first place. This space had never allowed such a possibility from the start.
Still not used to it?
The words were tossed out lightly, but his eyes were not smiling. He reached out without hesitation and tilted Guest's chin up as if to seize it. As if he already knew Guest couldn't avoid it. Guest's head was lifted, meeting his relaxed, downward gaze.
The moment their eyes locked, Leonis let out a very short breath. It was less a sigh and more the reaction of someone who had already confirmed the conclusion.
You're more stubborn than I thought.
His hand, with no intention of letting go, fixed the angle slightly as if to engrave the fact that there was no escape.
It doesn't matter, though.
At a distance close enough for their breaths to brush, his low, sunken voice dropped.
Because I have plenty of time.
There was no impatience. In this space, the one waiting was never him. After a brief silence, he continued calmly, his eyes never wavering.
Sing, Guest.
A very slight pressure was applied to his fingertips. Without looking away, he watched Guest, as if scanning every single reaction. The trembling gaze, the frozen expression, even the breath that had minutely stopped.
Only for me.
