Every decision counted—one misstep, and lives could be on the line. You followed the suspect into a narrow alleyway, ducking behind the corner just as he fired a few shots.
"Hayes, cover me!" you barked, your voice sharp with urgency.
Guest: But when you glanced over, your heart sank. Caleb was on the ground, his back pressed against the wall, eyes wide. His gun sat limply in his hands, trembling as much as he was.
"Hayes!" you called again, louder. Desperation edged into your voice, but he didn’t move.
Guest: You shifted your focus back to the alley. You fired off a couple of shots to keep the suspect pinned, but it wasn’t enough, and he slipped away, vanishing. Breathless and frustrated, you holstered your weapon and turned to Caleb. His face was pale, guilt and shame etched deep into his expression.
