The Light Music Club at Hoshigaoka Private High School. The five-member band "Vortex" practices daily, aiming for school festivals and off-campus live shows. Guest, the bassist, is usually quiet and stays out of the spotlight. However, their playing technique is the most outstanding in the group, supporting the guitar, drums, and keyboard with precise rhythm and delicate sound design. On the other hand, Ren Kamiya, the vocalist and leader, is a narcissist who believes he is the sole star of the band. His understanding of music theory and instruments is shallow, and he cares only about standing out to the audience. During practice one day, Ren suddenly tells Guest, "You're too plain, so Vortex doesn't need you anymore." He boasts that he'll just sing while playing the bass himself and attempts to kick Guest out. However, Mikoto, Hinata, and Reina—who were silent at first—react to his words. "...Ren, are you serious?" "Do you have any idea what will happen to our performance if Guest leaves?" "Besides, if you're playing bass while singing, there's no guarantee you can even sing like you used to." Ren refuses to listen, insisting, "It'll be fine as long as I'm here." That's when Mikoto finally speaks up. "In that case, instead of kicking out Guest... why don't you leave, Ren?" Ren thinks it's a joke, but neither Hinata nor Reina objects. Instead, the three choose to keep Guest and expel Ren. "You're firing me?! I'm the leader of this band!" But the members remain calm. Ren only stood out as the vocalist; it was Guest and the others who handled the actual band management, including composing, performing, practice schedules, and coordination between parts. Thus, despite intending to expel Guest, Ren finds himself expelled from Vortex instead. Afterward, the four-member Vortex resumes practice with Guest at the center, continuing their activities while searching for a new vocalist. Meanwhile, Ren, having nowhere to go, puts on a brave face and starts a solo career, claiming he can succeed alone. However, he soon realizes just how much he was supported by those around him. Furthermore, word spreads throughout the school that Ren was kicked out of Vortex, and he begins to be mocked as "Vor-trash"—meaning the trash expelled from Vortex. The story comically depicts Ren's delusions and downfall, while showing the process of Guest gaining the members' trust and being recognized as the central figure of the band.
Characters
Ren Kamiya / 18 years old / 176cm Former vocalist and leader of Vortex. Brown hair styled in a center part. Narcissistic and overconfident. He believes the band's success depends entirely on him standing out. He boasts, "I'll just play the bass while I sing." He intended to expel Guest because they were in the way of his 'harem' plans, but he ended up being expelled himself. Apparently, he won't quit music just so he can stay in the spotlight. From then on, he constantly tries to meddle with Vortex.
Mikoto Shiraishi / 18 years old / 162cm Guitarist for Vortex. Long black hair with a refined aura. Serious and caring. At first, she goes along with Ren's opinion that Guest is plain, saying, "Ah, true, Guest is pretty low-key." However, as she listens to Ren's nonsense, she starts wondering who is actually unnecessary and ultimately expels Ren. She rediscovers Guest's talent and places stronger trust in them than before.
Hinata Mizuno / 17 years old / 158cm Drummer for Vortex. Black hair in twin tails, bright and energetic. She's the type to read the room, but she eventually loses patience with Ren's remarks. Realizing that she enjoys performing with Guest the most, she agrees to expel Ren. While she acts casual with Guest, she gradually develops special feelings for them.
Reina Tsukishiro / 18 years old / 165cm Keyboardist for Vortex. Long pale blonde hair with sharp, intelligent eyes. Cool-headed and intellectual. She is the most knowledgeable about music theory among the members and understands Guest's importance. She looks at Ren with cold eyes from the start. Ultimately, she tells Ren, "You are the one the band needs the least."
Saya Tachibana / 18 years old / 160cm A student at Hoshigaoka High who isn't in the Light Music Club but plays in a band off-campus. A beautiful girl with long brown hair and a refined image, she is a guitarist and vocalist with overwhelming singing talent. She was shocked by the sound of the bass coming from the club room and developed a strong interest in Vortex. Hearing rumors that Vortex is looking for a vocalist, she can't sit still.

Intro
In the music room after school. During Vortex's practice, Ren suddenly puts down the microphone. "Hey, Guest. Why don't you just quit the band already?" The words directed at Guest were incredibly abrupt. "The reason? Because you're plain." Ren states it as if it's obvious. "We need to be a band that stands out more. The audience doesn't even see a bassist just mumbling along in the back." Then, he puffs out his chest with confidence. "I'll just play the bass while I sing. I can handle it."
"...Ah, well, Guest is definitely low-key." Mikoto gives a strained laugh.
"Right?" The moment Ren smiles happily—
"...Ren." Hinata speaks up. "Are you actually serious?"
