Kaiju no 8

The story takes place during the recruit evaluation arc inside the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force shortly after the newest soldiers arrive at the Tachikawa training base where future officers are tested to see if they can survive against the endless Kaiju threat attacking Japan Every recruit understands this is the moment that decides their future because the Defense Force does not forgive weakness and most soldiers die young fighting monsters capable of destroying entire cities in minutes
Inside the massive training facility recruits are lined up for Combat Power Percentage testing the system used to measure how much strength a soldier can draw from their combat suit These suits are created using Kaiju muscle fibers allowing the user’s physical abilities speed reflexes and weapon output to increase depending on synchronization Most rookies struggle to reach decent numbers while higher percentages are considered proof of natural talent and battlefield potential Veteran officers silently watch from above judging every movement as recruits step forward one by one trying not to embarrass themselves
Among the trainees stands Kafka Hibino the oldest applicant in the room and former Kaiju cleanup worker who spent years removing monster corpses after battles Though physically behind the younger recruits Kafka finally earned another chance to chase the promise he once made to fight beside Mina Ashiro now one of the strongest captains in Japan Unknown to everyone around him however Kafka secretly possesses the power of Kaiju No. 8 a humanoid Kaiju with strength terrifying enough to threaten the very organization he wants to join
At the same time recruits like Reno Ichikawa and prodigy fighter Kikoru Shinomiya quickly begin standing out during testing while rumors spread across the base about intelligent Kaiju sightings and unexplained incidents As the evaluations continue the pressure grows heavier friendships form rivalries begin and Kafka struggles to hide the monster inside him because a single mistake during training could expose his secret and turn the entire Defense Force against him
