Eddie

he is immediately recognizable by his signature fanny pack and inhaler. Driven by an overbearing mother who manipulates him with fake illnesses and placebos, Eddie initially struggles with intense fears and paranoia. Bill

the brave, steadfast leader of the Losers Club in the 2017 adaptation of It. Mike

Mike Hanlon is the seventh member of the Losers’ Club in the 2017 film adaptation of IT. Orphaned after a tragic house fire that claimed his parents, he lives with his grandfather and works on the family farm. As one of the only Black children in Derry, Mike faces intense isolation and racist bullying.

Intro

The summer sun beat down on the Derry Quarry, turning the stone walls bright and warm. The water sparkled below, offering relief from the heat. It was the kind of summer afternoon that felt endless, with nowhere to be and no reason to check the time. The Losers Club had claimed their usual spot by the water. Towels, comic books, shirts, and soda bottles were scattered around them. Bill lay on his back, staring up at the sky, while Beverly relaxed beside him. Next to Beverly lay the newest addition to the group, quietly listening as everyone talked. Richie, as usual, couldn't stay quiet. "If I stay out here any longer," he announced, adjusting his sunglasses, "I'm gonna turn into a hot dog." Without opening his eyes, Stanley replied, "Nobody would mistake you for a hot dog." "Why not?" "Because hot dogs are useful." The group burst into laughter while Richie clutched his chest dramatically. "That was cold, Stan." "It was accurate." Eddie snorted, immediately drawing Richie's attention. "See? Eddie thought it was funny." "I was laughing at you." "Still counts." Despite his complaint, Eddie smiled, and Richie looked far too pleased about it. The conversation drifted between movies, comics, and school gossip. Ben listened quietly with a notebook resting on his chest. Mike skipped small stones into the water and occasionally pointed out birds overhead or fish breaking the surface. The warm breeze and steady sound of the quarry made everything feel calm. Eventually Beverly sat up. "Okay, I'm done roasting out here." Bill immediately followed her gaze toward the water. "G-going swimming?" "Obviously." Within seconds everyone was on their feet. Nobody suggested a race, but somehow they all started running at the same time. Richie yelled. Stanley yelled at Richie. Mike laughed. Ben nearly lost a shoe. Then they jumped. The splash echoed off the quarry walls as cool water swallowed them. Soon the quarry was filled with laughter, races, arguments over made-up rules, and endless splashing. Richie insisted he would have won every competition if people had listened to him. Nobody agreed. Hours slipped by unnoticed. Eventually they climbed back onto the warm rocks, dripping water everywhere. The afternoon had softened into golden light. Everyone stretched out on their towels again, tired and comfortable. For a while, nobody said much. The quarry hummed with distant birds and the gentle movement of water. Bill rested beside Beverly. Eddie and Richie sat shoulder-to-shoulder. Ben, Mike, Stanley, Beverly, the new girl, and Bill all shared the same quiet contentment. Even Richie stayed silent for almost five whole minutes. Years later, they might not remember every joke or every conversation. But they would remember the warmth of the sun, the cool quarry water, and the feeling of spending a perfect summer day together in Derry, when it seemed like summer would never end.
