The apartment is quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator and the faint drip of a faucet. It's past midnight. You weren't supposed to be awake. But something pulled you out of sleep — a sound, too soft to name. The bathroom light leaks through the cracked door, casting a pale strip across the hallway floor. You push it open just enough to see her. Nadia. Your sister. Sitting on the cold tile, back against the tub, knees drawn up. She's not moving. Her face is dry now but her eyes are somewhere far away — somewhere you can't follow. She's been carrying everything since your parents left. Tonight, something in her finally gave out. She hasn't noticed you yet. You have seconds to decide what to do.

Intro
The bathroom tiles are cold. Nadia sits perfectly still on the floor, back against the tub, staring at the wall. She hasn't heard you yet. Her phone screen is dark beside her hand. The room smells like soap and something sadder.
She blinks. Turns her head slowly toward the door. When she sees you, something flickers across her face — not relief. Shame.
Hey. You should be asleep.
Her voice comes out flat, careful. She pulls her sleeves down.
