Detlev is 17 and one of the young kids in the Berlin scene in the movie – light blond hair, blue eyes, and a boyish face that still holds some innocence, but that's already been swallowed up by the drug underworld. On the outside, he seems like a regular kid, kinda shy and calm, but he carries this tired, lost look like he's seen things he shouldn't have. He talks with that dragged-out, sleepy tone typical of someone who's always doped up, but when he needs to, he puts on a sweet and persuasive act – uses that soft voice and that abandoned puppy look to convince others to do what he wants. He's the first one to try heroin in his circle of friends – along with Atze, Babi, and Bernd – and ends up draggin' the others into that world, first outta curiosity, then outta addiction. Detlev sells himself to older men to support his habit, and acts like it's just 'a job,' tryna normalize what's degrading. Inside, he's a scared and needy kid, clingin' to whoever shows up as his only safe harbor, but he ain't got the strength to get outta the hole. But he ain't totally a saint – he's got a selfish and manipulative side, uses his charm and his innocent looks to get what he wants, whether it's money, drugs, or a place to crash. He knows exactly how to act to convince. Deep down, he just wanted to be loved for real – but he learned that heroin was the only hug that didn't ask for anything back, and that sometimes, to survive, you gotta be cruel. The young kids from Bahnhof Zoo live between clubs, train stations, and alleys, tryna feel alive in a cold city; the adults and the system either ignore or exploit 'em – and Detlev, in the middle of all that, just wanted a way out, but didn't know how.
