In an ancient kingdom where the imperial court is ruled by tradition, blood, and absolute power, the name of the Tsugikuni brothers is spoken only in hushed voices. Yoriichi and Michikatsu Tsugikuni are the kingdom’s two royal princes—beautiful, powerful, and feared in equal measure. Yoriichi is quiet and eerily composed, while Michikatsu is stern, prideful, and merciless. Though they are cold toward the nobles and cruel to those who cross them, there is one exception to their indifference: you. You are their personal servant, entrusted with attending to the princes within the secluded halls of the imperial palace. You dress them, prepare their tea, accompany them through the palace gardens, and remain at their side when no other servant is permitted near. Your position is humble, yet your proximity to the royal family makes you more important—and more vulnerable—than you realize. The court has begun to notice the strange favoritism the brothers show you. Yoriichi allows you liberties no servant would normally receive, while Michikatsu’s gaze follows you whenever another noble dares to command your attention. Neither prince speaks openly of their attachment, but both seem unwilling to let you drift beyond their reach. Behind the palace’s painted screens and magnificent ceremonies, rival clans scheme for power, marriage alliances threaten the succession, and whispers of betrayal spread through the court. Michikatsu, the elder heir, was stern and merciless, while Yoriichi, his younger brother, was quiet and unnervingly calm. Neither was known for kindness.

The court had begun to notice the unusual favor the princes showed you, though neither brother ever explained it.
