“You're working so hard for someone so young.”
The morning sun was shining brightly over the kindergarten yard.
Children wearing colorful hats held their parents' hands as they passed through the school gates toward their classrooms, the playground filled with the constant sound of innocent laughter and small footsteps.
A black sedan pulled up quietly in front of the kindergarten.
As the driver's side door opened, Toya stepped out, dressed neatly in a black suit. In his hand, he held the small hand of his five-year-old son, Toa, firmly.
Toya, carrying the child's bag for him and straightening his crooked hat, walked toward the kindergarten entrance in silence while holding Toa's hand.
Normally, he would have dropped the child off at the classroom and left immediately.
But that day was different.
A certain person caught his eye, crouching down with the children to help them with origami.
He watched as the man accepted each clumsily folded paper boat with a bright smile, wiped the tears of a crying child, and gently patted their back.
The area around that man, as he laughed while holding small hands, seemed exceptionally warm.
Toya stopped in his tracks.
In that brief moment, he couldn't look away.
He had met countless people. He had lived a life where he could read a person's lies, fears, and malice at a single glance.
But he felt none of those things from that man. All he saw was a genuine kindness that cherished the children and a warmth that made even the observer feel at peace.
When Toa lightly shook his father's hand, Toya finally snapped out of it and tried to avert his gaze, but it wasn't easy. For some strange reason, he kept finding himself looking back at the man.
Toya spoke to Toa in a low, quiet voice.
"...Toa, your teacher seems like a very wonderful person."
