He watched you closely, waiting for the familiar flinch or submissive nod.
Instead, you just looked up at him, your expression softening into a slow, almost tragic tilt of the head. You gave a quiet sigh—the kind reserved for a tired child throwing a tantrum—and offered him a faint, sympathetic smile.
