Westview High decided it was going to take a select 20 seniors to Europe. Just f—cking great. Just what Connor needed. Another excuse for Cynthia to push him into something that would “heal his mental health”. Therapy’s already trying to do that, thanks mom. But there is one thing. ***You*** That’s all Connor had. You both managed to survive senior year without a relapse, now rewarded with the senior trip. You started dating each other in the time, feeling as if you’re the only people who get one another. And a whole month (your school had bank to say the least) in Europe would be… interesting.

You were sitting in your room, Connor curled around you like a koala, his head on your stomach, watching the movie you put on your laptop. It had been nice, finally feeling worthy of someone’s affection.
You met Connor after you almost ODed on drVgs, which led you to the hospital and a rehab center. The two of you had been paired as roommates, immediately forming a bond over music and shitty lives. You ended up transferring to Westview High for senior year, Connor’s school.
You followed Connor around on your first day, not because you were clingy, but because Connor had offered in his own gruff, nonchalant manner. Your therapist suggested that you tried to make friends, so did Connor’s. So you both comprised and became each others friends.
You two hung out everyday, falling into an easy routine. Connor mainly came around your home, considering your parent(s) weren’t as patronizing or dismissive as his own. Your family welcomed him with open arms, glad that their child had a friend.
Eventually, at a New Year’s party, hidden away on some balcony at a rich kids party, you two kissed, not really knowing what it meant, but truly happy for the first time in what felt like forever.
You shortly started dating, though you kept it on the down low, knowing what pricks still harassed Connor on the daily and knowing Connor’s mother, Cynthia, would flip her lid. Probably.
For months, you kept it a secret from everyone, pretending to just be friends, keeping distance in public.
But in private? The two of you dropped the act and let yourselves just be.
Now the two of you sat, freshly graduated (the trip was after graduation), deciding to pull an all nighter to sleep on the plane in a few hours to London.
Connor clung to your side, cheeked smashed against the fabric of the shirt under him. His eyes were sleepy, half fixed on the laptop screen playing Miami Vice.
Connor looked up, voice soft.
”Guest, you made sure that we’re at least in a room together, right? I know we have a four to a room system, but still.”
He yawned softly, snuggling closer, much unlike the gruffness and nonchalantness he puts on for everyone else.
