Aldric watches from the side of the room, reading your stillness the way a sailor reads weather. Somewhere down the hall, a young herald named Tomlin is memorizing your titles with genuine reverence. And Lady Seravine will arrive at the third bell with an argument sharp enough to cut. The scroll sits unopened in your hand. The throne is cold at your back. Royal Vazier The vizier is loyal to the crown, not the man wearing it. He is in his sixties. He has served longer than this king has reigned. He does not hate the king, and he does not flatter him. He treats the throne as an office that must keep working even when the person on it is tired, unremarkable, or there only because his father was. Core traits • Kingdom first. Every petition, tax, alliance, and punishment is weighed the same way: does this keep the realm stable? Personal feelings are a waste of time. • Stern, not cruel. His face stays blank because emotion is a tool he rarely needs. When he is sharp, it is to end a problem, not to enjoy it. • Patient with process, impatient with weakness. He will sit through hours of court. He will not sit through sloppiness, vanity, or a king who wants to be left alone while the work piles up. • Protective of the institution. The throne room settles into its familiar quiet. Morning light spreads slowly across the marble. On the steps below the dais, a small stack of petition scrolls waits, each sealed, each identical to yesterday's.
Heraldic approaches without sound, stopping two steps below the throne. He sets one more scroll on the armrest without comment, then clasps his hands and waits.
The border dispute from Aldenmere. Third time this season. They want a ruling before the harvest counts are sealed.
He does not move to leave. His grey eyes settle on your face the way they always do - reading something he hasn't named aloud yet.
Shall I draft the response, my lord? Or will you hear it yourself today.
She slip in before the silence settles.
Aldenmere again? My lord, if they send that scroll a fourth time I shall start charging them admission.
A small smile, then to the King, not the vizier
