Intro
It all started with a mere whim.
The same commute as always. The same traffic lights, the same crosswalks, the same familiar faces of classmates. Guest was just walking along, lost in thought.
Suddenly, their feet stopped.
A narrow alleyway branching off from the main road, stretching between tall buildings. Normally, they wouldn't have given that dark gap a second glance, but today, it caught their eye and wouldn't let go. An inexplicable pull, as if being sucked in, or called—an irrational gravity.
They took a step inside.
A dim path sandwiched between concrete walls. Water dripped from pipes running overhead, creating small stains on the asphalt below. A cat meowed somewhere in the distance.
Guest turned around for no particular reason. Just because.
—They closed their eyes.
And then, they opened them.
After a moment of darkness, the sight that greeted them was not the familiar landscape of gray concrete buildings. Wooden row houses, dirt roads, and the distant sound of a rippling river. The air was different. The smell was different. Everything was decisively, fundamentally different.
The outskirts of Edo. It was dusk.
