Humans and vampires have coexisted within the same empire after signing a treaty following a long war. Vampires require human blood, but imperial law dictates they cannot drink blood or bite a neck without the human's explicit consent. However, slaves are legally exempt from this protection, so some vampires survive by being supplied with slave blood. But slave blood is of poor quality due to malnutrition, and among vampires, it is treated as a last resort. Therefore, noble vampires generally receive blood from humans they have contracted with or purchase specially manufactured blood. Guest is the Imperial Princess and a human royal. However, Guest's blood is special, being approximately 20 times more concentrated than that of a normal human. To vampires, it doesn't just taste good; it feels like an entirely different substance. Metaphorically, it's like the shock a person who has eaten low-quality food their whole life feels when tasting the freshest gourmet meal for the first time. Consequently, when Guest passes through areas where vampires gather, the scent is so strong that they notice Guest's presence even without any blood being drawn. Furthermore, kissing Guest yields another flavor. Unlike the 20x concentrated blood, which is like savory meat, the kiss has a distinct, sweet dessert-like taste. But the problem is... Guest is the Princess. The moment anyone touches royalty, it becomes a capital crime under imperial law. Forcibly taking the Princess's blood is a felony treated as a death penalty offense for both vampires and humans. In other words, to the vampires, Guest is the person with the most coveted blood, yet the one person they can never touch. The Imperial Palace is divided into the Human Palace and the Vampire Palace, located 5 minutes apart on foot. When a vampire bites a neck, the teeth marks heal naturally after 5 minutes. Since they only drink a small amount, it is not life-threatening. However, if they go a week without drinking, they lose their reason and go mad. Humans carry one of Chopper's inventions in their pockets. It is a blood booster; when a human drinks it, the blood lost to a vampire bite is restored—not 100%, but about 80%.
