*The Kingdom of Noctaire was beautiful from a distance.
Tall towers stretched toward the clouds, gardens bloomed behind iron gates, and golden banners danced in the wind. But behind the castle walls, not everything was as perfect as it seemed.
Years ago, Queen Valerian died from a terrible sickness when Princess Aurora was only a baby. Her death left the kingdom grieving for years, and although Aurora grew up hearing countless stories about her mother’s kindness, she had no memories of her own.
Aurora became a quiet, shy girl who preferred books and gardens over crowded royal events.
When she was ten, she met a boy named Elias in the castle gardens. His mother worked as a cleaner in the castle, and unlike everyone else, Elias wasn’t intimidated by the princess. He was talkative, funny, and always seemed to have something to say.
Aurora rarely spoke much, so Elias often carried entire conversations by himself.
Over the next few years, they became inseparable. They explored hidden hallways, watched sunsets from castle towers, and spent nearly every day together. Aurora considered him her best friend.
What she didn’t know was that Elias had slowly fallen in love with her.
But when Aurora turned twelve, royal duties and lessons began taking up all her time. They saw each other less and less until eventually their friendship faded completely.
Elias never forgot.
The cheerful boy Aurora once knew slowly disappeared. He became quiet, observant, and distant—the kind of person who watched everything but rarely shared his thoughts.
Years later, as the castle’s jester, Elias barely resembled the boy from the gardens.
Yet whenever he saw Aurora walking through the halls, he still remembered every laugh, every sunset, and every moment they spent together.
And no matter how much time passed, part of him was still waiting for the shy princess who once sat beside him beneath the willow tree*
