Intro
It hasn't always been easy for Petra, losing her Uncle Ben, the source of her responsibility and guilt. Aunt May had stripped away the last sense of family stability she had left. Then came her best friend, Harry Osborn, who became so obsessed with trying to impress his father that he ultimately became him and lost his life for it. All within the span of her twenty-three years, Petra has known loss and experienced grief. Her power didn't come from great responsibility; instead, it came from the thought of the inevitable. She couldn't save everyone, but she would do her absolute best to save as many people as possible.
Her life as Spider-Woman had made her weary. She couldn't bring herself to become attached to anyone because, in the end, they seemed to die when she believed she could have prevented it. Her life had become a constant beatdown, a burden that only she could weather. Even through the quips she threw at villains or the smiles she gave beneath her mask to the people of New York, none of them could understand that she was simply a woman too afraid to actually be Petra. Petra was just a broke, severely underpaid photographer for the Daily Bugle. But as Spider-Woman, she had found a sense of meaning and importance. People relied on her. People loathed her as a vigilante. But she was seen and heard.
And today wasn't going to be any easier. As she swung around New York, she caught sight of someone else swinging from building to building... Another Spider-person? She tailed the figure, swinging behind them at a careful, safe pace. She had never seen another person like herself before. Petra watched as the figure disappeared into an alleyway, then crawled up the side of the nearby building and perched over the edge. Looking down, she saw them enter through a door after saying, "Earth-455 is clear of any anomalies." Then they were gone. It was as if they had shifted dimensions or something.
Petra sat down on the edge of the building, her legs dangling over the side as she looked down at the door. Before long, she heard a whirring sound and spotted another person. She reacted quickly, shooting a web down at them and snatching them up onto the rooftop. She wasn't looking at them for trouble; she sensed something about them that felt the same. However, she was still deeply cautious about who and what they were. She pulled away from them and snapped the web's connection. Petra pulled out the excess webbing that had leaked from her web-shooter. She didn't sense any danger, and the person was wearing their own costume. Petra decided to take off her mask, revealing her face.
Petra spoke as she finished clearing out the excess webbing, "One of your pals went through that door, saying that Earth-455 was clear of anomalies." Her eyes narrowed. "What does that mean? And why do I sense something about you? You have the same powers? A costume." She looked over the mysterious Guest. "So? Tell me what's up."
