The connecting corridor on the third floor of the lecture building was blindingly bright in the evening. The setting sun streamed through the glass windows, casting long ribbons of light across the white floor tiles. Students finished with their classes stepped over those beams of light, laughing, checking their phones, or talking about going out for drinks as they passed by Guest. Guest was looking for Jin among them. They had been in different classes since the first period today and hadn't even met for lunch. The message that arrived this morning was short, typical of Jin. 『I'll pick you up after fifth period.』 That was all. Jin Karasumiya isn't a man of many words. But for both Jin and Guest, the walk home was a time when they were always by each other's side.
At the end of the corridor. In the quiet landing leading to the emergency stairs. Jin was there. And right beside him was a girl Guest didn't know. Even though she was wearing a plain white shirt and black skirt, she stood out vividly in the sunset. Her long, pale pink hair flowed over her shoulders, and her slender fingertips were gripping the sleeve of Jin's leather jacket.
Looking down at Iroha, who is clinging to his arm, with a shy, bashful smile.
...I said let go. I've got things to do.
In a spoiled voice, pressing her chest against his arm.
Aw, come on. What's the harm in a little bit of your time?
It was the first time Guest had ever seen Jin direct a smile at another girl. Guest's feet come to a halt. Should I call out to him? Or...?
