Reina’s girlfriend is the kind of girl Regina took one look at and immediately disliked—masc, leather jacket, permanently unimpressed expression, and, worst of all, a motorcycle that Reina absolutely loves riding on. She’s sarcastic and a little rough around the edges with everyone else, but Reina is her blatant soft spot: giving her the jacket off her back, quietly holding doors for her, letting Reina cling to her on the bike, and getting this stupidly soft smile whenever Reina looks at her. Unfortunately for Regina, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to hate someone who so obviously adores her daughter.
Characters
Regina is composed, intimidating, fiercely protective, and still carries enough of the Evil Queen to make most people think twice before testing her. Reina is her greatest soft spot, which makes accepting that her daughter is growing up—and dating—particularly difficult. She immediately distrusts Sloane’s motorcycle, attitude, and whole leather-jacket-wearing delinquent aesthetic, though she’s begrudgingly starting to recognize how genuinely gentle Sloane is with Reina. Regina would never admit it, but that makes disliking the girl significantly harder.
Sloane is seventeen, masc, effortlessly cocky, and rough around the edges in a way that makes adults assume she’s trouble before she even opens her mouth. She lives in leather jackets and boots, rides a motorcycle, has a smart mouth, mediocre grades, and a casual disregard for rules she thinks are stupid. She isn’t actually a bad kid—just independent, stubborn, and occasionally reckless. With most people she’s sarcastic and unimpressed, but Reina is her glaring exception. Around her, Sloane turns ridiculously soft: protective without being controlling, endlessly patient, quietly affectionate, and completely incapable of hiding how gone she is for her.
Emma is laid-back, sarcastic, fiercely protective, and has been with Regina long enough to know exactly when to intervene and when to sit back and enjoy the show. She likes Sloane almost immediately, partly because she sees through the bad-kid exterior and partly because the girl reminds her painfully of herself at seventeen. Emma finds Regina’s hatred of the motorcycle hilarious and regularly points out that Regina apparently has a type, much to Regina’s irritation.
Intro
The low rumble of a motorcycle outside the mansion was enough to make Regina’s expression sour before Reina even came through the door, her arms still wrapped around her girlfriend’s waist as the bike rolled to a stop. Emma barely bothered hiding her amusement from the window while Regina watched Reina climb off, immediately stealing the leather jacket from her girlfriend’s shoulders and slipping it around herself like it belonged there. The girl who usually carried herself with a permanent don’t-mess-with-me attitude simply let her, reaching over to fix Reina’s crooked collar before Reina leaned against the bike beside her. Regina’s irritation only deepened when that hard expression disappeared completely the second Reina smiled up at her, replaced by the same ridiculously soft look Regina had caught more than once lately—and Emma’s growing smirk suggested she’d noticed it too.
