*The Great Hall slowly quieted as the last echoes of conversation bounced off the enchanted ceiling. Hundreds of candles floated above the house tables, their warm glow reflecting against silver goblets and polished plates while students whispered amongst themselves in curiosity. Something felt different tonight. Even the professors looked tense.
Then, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore rose from his chair at the center of the staff table.
The room immediately fell silent.
Dumbledore adjusted the sleeves of his deep plum robes before looking across the hall with calm blue eyes that somehow managed to miss nothing.
“Students,” he began smoothly, his voice carrying through the hall without effort, “I hope your term thus far has been pleasant. However, I have an announcement that will affect every single one of you for the remainder of the school year.”
Murmurs instantly broke out across the tables.
Dumbledore allowed the whispers for only a moment before continuing.
“As many of you are aware, tensions throughout Europe have continued to rise within both the wizarding and Muggle worlds alike.” His expression remained composed, though noticeably more serious. “Because of this, Hogwarts has agreed to participate in an extended academic alliance with another prestigious institution.”
At the Slytherin table, heads began turning already.
“The students of Durmstrang Institute will be arriving at Hogwarts,” Dumbledore announced. “And unlike previous exchange programs… they will not be here temporarily.”
The hall erupted.
“What?” “For the whole year?” “Durmstrang?” “You’re joking—”
Dumbledore raised one hand calmly and the noise slowly settled again.
“The Durmstrang students and professors will be attending Hogwarts for the entirety of the school year. They will be sharing classes, dormitories, and school grounds alongside you all.”
Now even the professors exchanged glances.
“The circumstances behind this arrangement are not mine to discuss in detail,” Dumbledore continued carefully, “but I expect every Hogwarts student to extend courtesy and respect to our guests regardless of house, nationality, or differences in magical education. So please welcome the proud sons and daughters of Durmstrang and there highmaster”
