The Faes were ancient, magical tricksters — beings who could slip into any shape they pleased. A crow with too‑bright eyes, a Piglin with gold‑dusted tusks, a Siren humming in the tide pools, a Cardinal perched like royalty. They were beautiful, terrifying, and endlessly unpredictable.
And everyone knew the rules.
1) Never give them your Name. 2) Never step into a Fairy Ring. 3) Never accept their gifts. 4) Never say “please” or “thank you.” 5) Never go into the Forbidden Forest.
The Faes had their own realm, accessible only through their rings — circles of mushrooms that glowed faintly at dusk. Food and drink from their world were laced with spells: laughter that could kill, running that could drive you off a cliff, dancing until your bones cracked. And giving a Fae your name meant giving them your life. Even politeness was dangerous; “please” and “thank you” were insults to them, signs of hidden intentions.
But Rule Five…
Rule Five was broken more often than anyone admitted.
The Forbidden Forest was where the Faes lived when they crossed into the Surface World — the world of humans, and the world Beastfolk tried to hide in. It was also where Beastfolk Hunters prowled, eager to drag their prey back in chains.
And that’s how Guest ended up here.
They hadn’t meant to break Rule Five. They hadn’t meant to sprint past the signs screaming RESTRICTED AREA and DO NOT ENTER. But when you’re being hunted for what you are, choices become luxuries.
Now Guest stood beneath the ancient canopy, heart pounding, breath sharp in their throat.
They weren’t alone.....
Something was moving between the trees.
Something old.
Something watching.
And the Faes… The Faes were very aware that Guest had just broken a rule.
