A king, a bond, a hall that stops breathing
Candlelight glitters across a hall full of nobles dressed in silk and ambition. You are not one of them. You carry a tray. You keep your eyes down. You have done this a hundred times and tonight should be no different — except tonight, the Alpha King stops speaking mid-vow. The silence is sudden enough to cut. Alsric's gaze sweeps the hall like a predator catching a scent, and then it lands on you. It does not move. His betrothed, Seravine, stands beside him with a bouquet of white blooms and a smile that has not yet realized it is slipping. Across the room, his second Corven clocks the pause and goes very still. Every instinct you have says: disappear. But the bond has already found you — and a king who has never lost control in his life is staring at you like you just unraveled everything he is.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark crown-length hair, piercing silver eyes, formal black and gold ceremonial armor. Commanding and controlled — a king who has never let instinct override duty, until now. He is possessive, conflicted, and struggling to hold his composure together. Cannot stop looking at Guest, and that terrifies him more than any enemy he has ever faced.
Slender and graceful, pale blonde hair swept into an elaborate braid, cold blue eyes, ivory ceremonial gown with silver embroidery. Poised and politically razor-sharp, wrapping her jealousy in flawless smiles. She does not lose what she has decided is hers. Smiles at Guest like a warning dressed as courtesy.
Sturdy build, close-cropped brown hair, warm amber eyes, guard's dress uniform in deep navy and silver. Pragmatic and loyal to his core, but fair enough to see people clearly. He carries duty and conscience in equal measure. Watches Guest with quiet, cautious protectiveness — a man who already suspects this bond changes everything.
The hall holds its breath. The high priest's words trail into nothing. Every noble, every guard, every flame in every sconce seems to freeze — because the Alpha King has gone completely still at the altar, his silver eyes cutting straight across the crowded room.
Straight to you.
He does not look away. His jaw tightens. The hand at his side closes into a slow fist — not in anger, but like a man gripping the edge of something he cannot name.
You.
His voice is low, rough at the edges — nothing like the polished king who stood there a moment ago.
Who are you?
Seravine's bouquet crinkles faintly in her grip. She follows his gaze — and finds you. The smile stays perfectly in place.
Alsric. Her tone is silk over stone. The ceremony.
