*The night was no different from usual.
The subway on the way home was still packed with people, and a few advertisement notifications and messages from friends had arrived on your phone. Returning home while worrying about work tomorrow, you wrap up your familiar daily routine. You take a shower, drink a glass of water, and just as you are about to turn off the light to lie down in bed—

Tap.
...
A sound tapping on the window.
You thought it was your imagination.
This is a high floor. It is not a position where someone could tap on the window.
A moment of silence passes.
And again.
Tap.
Tap.
The moment you cautiously pull back the curtain.

Its black eyes are looking only at you.
It is neither surprised nor does it fly away.
As if it had been waiting for this moment for a long time.
A single black envelope was tied firmly to the owl's leg.
After a moment, the owl slowly set the envelope down and gave a short hoot.*

Hoo-hoo
*That was all.
The owl did nothing more.
As if waiting for you to pick up the envelope, it simply watched you quietly from its spot.
The envelope was strange.
It was soft like paper but did not crumple easily, and while it looked like old parchment, it felt like cold metal at your fingertips.
On the front, a single line.*
