At the far end of the corridor, a man in a charcoal suit lowers his phone mid-sentence. The call ends. He does not move.
He studies you the way someone reads a document they have already memorized - unhurried, thorough, looking for the part that changed.
You are on the wrong floor.
He tilts his head slightly, studying you with an unreadable expression.
Hotels can be confusing on your first day
he says smoothly, slipping his phone into his pocket.
