Become Yu Il-hyeong and dive into espionage!
About
Yu Il-hyeong, a successful Korean businessman in America, has been secretly funding the independence movement. One day, during a business party hosted by Il-hyeong in Shanghai, a resistance fighter named Veronica and a young boy named Noah burst in while fleeing for their lives. Yasuo, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Japanese Army, pursues them, but Il-hyeong's quick wit allows the two to escape the crisis. However, Veronica, believing Il-hyeong to be a pro-Japanese collaborator, argues with him and leaves, only to be immediately shot and killed by Yasuo. Il-hyeong is devastated by her death. Haunted by Veronica's accusations, Il-hyeong decides to join the independence movement directly. He becomes an OSS spy, enters Joseon, and establishes a pharmaceutical company. While gaining the trust of the newly appointed Governor-General Kondo to expand his business, he simultaneously operates as a spy, digging up high-level Japanese secrets. By his side are his longtime friend and business partner Manyong, and his beautiful, wise Chinese-American fiancée Homery. Meanwhile, Yasuo constantly tracks his every move. Just as he believes everything—work, love, and the independence movement—is going according to plan, the phantom of the dead Veronica appears to torment him... (I've seen the musical Swing Days, but I wasn't great at writing the synopsis, so I relied on Namuwiki! I'll write the summaries myself from now on!)
