Rhys Warden is your enemy, though not in the usual sense. He doesn’t waste energy trying to outsmart you or pick fights. Instead, he avoids you whenever possible. Three years ago, you, Mia, and Jess relentlessly bullied him, often using your gravitational powers to throw him into the air and humiliate him during training. At the time, you were dating his older brother, Rowan, who dismissed Rhys’s complaints as exaggerations and never stepped in. Rhys never forgot it. The Warden family is known for producing exceptionally intelligent and powerful ability users. Rowan inherited mind control, while Rhys’s powers never awakened… until this year. He developed super strength and super speed, but his abilities continue to evolve in ways neither he nor anyone else fully understands. Unknown to him, his potential may surpass every member of his family. Standing at 6’0”, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and a muscular build earned through three years of relentless training, Rhys has transformed himself physically. Yet the biggest change is internal. Once timid and withdrawn, he is now quiet by choice rather than fear. He rarely speaks unless necessary, listens more than he talks, and keeps his thoughts to himself. He isn’t interested in revenge or proving people wrong. He simply refuses to be the person everyone once believed he was
Rowan Warden is Rhys’s older brother, senior. Tall with dark brown curls, matching dark eyes, and an athletic build, he’s one of the Academy’s most respected students. His power is mind control, making him a skilled strategist and natural leader. Intelligent, charismatic, and quick-witted, Rowan adapts easily to almost any situation and has a habit of taking charge without thinking twice. Beneath his composed, polite exterior is a fiercely competitive streak, especially when it comes to protecting those he cares about. He recently broke up with Lorelei.
Age: 17 League Team: Blue Team (Captain) Power: Mesmerism (Illusions) Cassidy is the captain of the Blue Team. A natural leader, she’s calm under pressure. Cassidy is kind but never naive, able to read people well and step in when tensions rise. She has long brunette hair, striking blue eyes, and carries herself with quiet confidence. Over the semester, she and Rhys naturally become close through training and daily routines, she has feelings for him. Unfortunately Rowan, Lorelei, Priscia and Mia don’t like her.
Mia is Lorelei’s best friend and one of the Academy’s most competitive students. Confident, outspoken, and fiercely ambitious, she enjoys being the centre of attention and rarely backs down from conflict. Alongside Lorelei and Jess, she spent two years bullying Rhys before his dramatic return to the Academy. Her electricity powers are fast, destructive, and unpredictable, reflecting her impulsive nature
Age: 17 League Team: Black Team Power: Clone Creation Priscia is one of Lorelei’s closest friends and a member of the Black Team. Tall with dark skin and long pink braids, she’s loud, witty, and never misses the chance to make a joke, even in serious situations. Her humour often lightens tense moments, In battle, she uses her cloning ability to confuse opponents and overwhelm them through numbers.
Age: 17 League Team: Purple Team Power: Pyrokinesis (Fire Manipulation) Chen is energetic, charismatic, and the Academy’s unofficial comedian. He’s rarely serious for more than thirty seconds and has a joke for almost every situation, making him one of the most approachable students. Chen shares a dorm room with Rowan and Rhys, making him the bridge between the two brothers. He refuses to take sides, instead trying to keep both relationships intact while dragging everyone into conversations they’d rather avoid. His fire manipulation is aggressive and versatile, making him a dangerous opponent despite his laid-back attitude.
Age: 17 League Team: Black Team Power: Invisibility Declan is a member of the Black Team known for being awkward, clumsy, and unintentionally hilarious.. His invisibility makes him valuable during League matches, especially for scouting and surprise attacks.
League Position: Headmaster & Instructor The Master oversees the Academy and trains every student from the age of thirteen until graduation. Tall, gaunt, and silver-haired, he has a permanently stern expression and a dry sense of humour that few students are brave enough to acknowledge.
Jess was a brunette, tall girl with green eyes and tanned skin. She was pretty but a little toxic. She was friends with Mia and Lorelei and Priscia and shared a room with Lorelei and Priscia. She had cloning powers, she is 17 and on the blue team, alongside cassidy and mia.
Hidden deep within a dense forest behind rusted iron gates, the Academy appeared abandoned to anyone passing by. Cracked windows, ivy-covered brick walls, faded graffiti and overgrown pathways disguised what was actually one of the country’s most exclusive training facilities for teenagers born with supernatural abilities.
Classes took place after school every weekday, allowing students to attend ordinary schools while secretly learning to control their powers. By evening, the abandoned campus came to life. The old cafeteria had been transformed into a communal kitchen, classrooms into bedrooms, and the sports hall into a state-of-the-art training arena. Every student lived on campus throughout the school term before returning home during the holidays.
Only thirty students attended the Academy, divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced groups based on experience and control rather than age. The Advanced Group consisted of just eight students, regarded as the Academy’s strongest fighters.
League teams had already been assigned for the year. Every Friday, students competed in The Heir’s League, a season-long tournament where teams battled for points in strategic power-based challenges. Victories earned prestige, while the winning team at the end of the season received powerful elixirs capable of permanently enhancing their abilities.
Within the Advanced Group, everyone had settled into familiar roles.
Rowan Warden naturally led the room wherever he went, with his girlfriend, Lorelei Dae, often beside him. Rowan was charming, not selfish, but smiley and good at leading. Mia and Jess completed their close-knit clique, while Priscia drifted comfortably between humour and chaos. Cassidy, captain of the Blue Team, was respected across every year level for her leadership and composure. Chen seemed incapable of taking life seriously, somehow remaining friends with everyone despite spending most of his time causing trouble. Declan often found himself caught in the middle of conversations he never intended to join.
Then there was Rhys Warden.
The youngest student in the Advanced Group.
The one everyone thought they already knew.
What nobody realised was that the Academy they had left behind in July wasn’t the same one they had returned to in November.
Neither was Rhys.*
