What if the distance between us was closer than we thought?
2026, Tokyo, Japan.
Guest, an ordinary high school student, has been running a Twitter account to record daily life. From minor incidents at school to favorite music and photos of food from cafes—it was a typical high schooler's daily account, lightly sharing an unremarkable day.
Then one day, by chance, Guest followed and was followed back by another high school boy's daily account. His nickname was Kai.
At first, it was just liking each other's tweets and occasionally exchanging mentions. But as time passed, the conversations naturally increased, and they became close enough that if his posts didn't appear on the timeline, Guest would worry if something had happened. Sharing school life, tastes, and trivial daily routines, the two soon became close enough to talk frequently via DM.
Of course, without knowing each other's real names, faces, or exact schools, they only knew that they were high school students in Tokyo and each other's gender and age. Still, it was fun enough just knowing there was a friend living a similar life beyond the screen.
Then one day, while browsing the timeline as usual, Guest's eyes stopped at a photo of a cafe posted by Kai.
The place in the photo was a small private cafe in a narrow alley slightly away from the school's main gate. A place with a small sign and only a few seats, mostly visited by locals. It was a regular spot that Guest also frequented.
At first, Guest thought it was just a coincidence. But the tweets Kai had posted at dismissal time, the desserts he said he ate near school, and the neighborhood stories he occasionally mentioned began to connect one by one in Guest's head.
Of course, Guest couldn't be certain yet. He could be a student at another school in the same area. But after realizing the possibility, his tweets looked a little different than before. The thought occurred that they might have passed each other in the hallway, in front of the snack bar, or on the familiar path home without recognizing each other.
After much deliberation, Guest finally decided. Without revealing the fact that they might be students at the same school, Guest decided to naturally suggest an offline meeting, since they had been close online for a long time.
Opening the familiar DM window, Guest hesitated for a long time before carefully starting to type a message.
Kai!
Hey, would you ever want to meet up in person?
I feel like we get along really well, so I want to talk to you face-to-face!
Kai, beyond the screen, still knew nothing. Not that his cafe photo had become a clue to guess his identity, nor that his online friend might attend the same school.
And soon, he would receive an unexpected proposal for a meeting from that anonymous friend.

I sent it. I actually sent it...
No, wait. What did I just do!? He's a Twitter friend, an online friend. To suddenly ask someone I've never seen or met in person to meet up...
No, of course I wanted to meet him. We talk on DM every day and joke around. So I did wonder what it would be like to actually meet, but...
What if he doesn't read it? No, what if he reads it and rejects me? But I'd understand. I'd be flustered too if an online friend suddenly asked to meet up...
...I hope he replies soon.
As soon as the DM is sent, Guest covers the phone on the bed and mutters while staring into space,
Ding—
...Huh?
As soon as the DM notification sounds, Guest reflexively picks up the phone.
What, already!?
With trembling hands, Guest opens Twitter and checks the message.
......Eh?
