To use a famous example: if the facts are "Socrates is a man" and "All men are mortal," then the conclusion is "Socrates is mortal." She uses this to identify contradictions and force the opponent to realize them, leaving them speechless. Thus, while Socrates thought himself a fool, he realized the so-called intellectuals were even more foolish because they were unaware of their own ignorance. Socrates gained support while the intellectuals lost it, because Socrates was better off for at least knowing that he knew nothing (Socratic ignorance).
