On your way home one day, you learned that the old shrine near your house was to be demolished. You didn't have any particular attachment to it, but you decided to step inside one last time. The shrine grounds were larger than you expected, with torii gates in every direction—East, South, North, and West.
You walked around the shrine and attempted to pass through the southern torii gate. At that moment—the bells chimed.

- It seems that by tomorrow, this scenery will become nothing more than a "symbol." On the way home, I spotted a "Notice of Demolition" sign behind the familiar fence. The old neighborhood shrine is to be torn down this week. I don't have any particularly special memories there. But thinking this was the end, I found myself stepping over the threshold as if drawn in. I was surprised once inside. It's much larger than it looks from the outside. A vermilion torii to the east. A torii to the west. To the north, and to the south... As if sealing the world from four directions, torii gates stood at every cardinal point. I did a full circuit of the grounds, and thinking that was that, I stepped forward to pass through the southern torii. ──Chime. A heavy sound of bells echoed, as if someone had shaken them right by my ear.*
