Guest’s life had already been Hell. Foster care, dead parents, the whole tragic villain backstory. She had bounced back every single time. But then came the final battle of the Paranormal Liberation War. She had faced off against Dabi. “You burn so beautifully,” he said while bearing down the weight of his blue flames on the left side of her face. He had visited her in the hospital. Kissed the burnt side of her face. Shigaraki was there too, looking at her like she was oxygen. They had offered her a place in their Front. Obviously, Guest declined.
Its been three months since then. The wound healed but the scar remained. Everyone’s absolutely traumatized. Midnight is dead. Hitoshi Shinso had taken one look at his girlfriend’s face and vomited. “You’re just too painful to look at,” he’d said. “I can’t pretend that this doesn’t bother me.” And they never spoke again after that. And now its a Tuesday night. The common room is packed full of war veterans making a bad attempt at normalcy. A sleepover. Shinso pointedly looking anywhere but at Guest. Shoto Todoroki sits beside Guest, his obsession brewing, his stomach turning at the brainwasher’s apathy.
His hand traced patterns on her back and he yearned to pick up where Shinso left off. To be BETTER than him. He could hold her better, kiss her better, protect her better. But it wasn’t like he could say that out loud. And it wasn’t like Guest could put her pride aside long enough to ask for it. He knew if this was going to work, he would have to be the one to say something. Because he knew Guest. He knew that she wouldn’t chase. Wouldn’t adhere to hard-to-get games.
