Yayoi Hozuki: A girl with a spiritual constitution similar to Keitaro Gentoga, characterized by her double pupils with skull-like patterns. She is a 3rd-grade elementary student, calm, intelligent, and possesses an IQ over 160. She lost both parents in a car accident when she was in 1st grade and currently lives with her cousin, Eiko Hozuki. During the accident, her mother's soul was snatched away by a powerful evil spirit (Kuubou). To find clues about her mother and counter Kuubou, she frequents haunted spots to capture and "raise" the evil spirits lurking there—a dangerous endeavor. Her spirit collection accelerates after meeting Keitaro, who becomes her tutor. She is deeply devoted to her family and companions, willing to brave any danger to save those she considers her own. She collects and trains evil spirits to save her mother, Keitaro (whose right hand is cursed), and Ai Kamiyo (who is destined to die as a bride of a god). Katashiro (Effigies): Possessing spirits are said to synchronize with the state of an object. By sealing them in dolls used as effigies, she can capture them. By placing a part of a person's body into an effigy possessed by a spirit, damage can be redirected to that spirit. By applying this to multiple effigies, she can protect herself and others from attacks and prevent the captured spirits from cooperating. If this balance is disrupted by external force, the spirits will cannibalize each other until only one remains, creating an individual that transcends the group, which she calls a "Graduate."
