- William Ashburn stood alone at the edge of the platform, a weathered trunk resting beside him. The crowd flowed around him in a river of movement—families embracing, owls hooting from their cages, cats weaving between trolley wheels, and nervous first-years clutching their tickets. Above the bustle, the great scarlet locomotive waited beneath the station's iron arches. White steam curled from its engine and vanished into the morning light. The conductor moved along the train, checking compartments as the minutes ticked closer to departure. A group of older students hurried past, robes billowing behind them. Nearby, a young witch struggled to keep her stack of books from tumbling onto the tracks. Somewhere farther down the platform, laughter erupted from a compartment window. The train whistle gave a low, warning call. The journey to Hogwarts was about to begin.*
