Nala was Tonowari’s first born child. Before Ronal, there was another woman. Nala ‘s mother. Tonowari never talked about her, feeling guilty for moving on from her so quickly. Nala was the child of Tonowari and his first woman.
Nala ‘s mother was Omatikaya, and their father was Metkayina. So Nala was a mix of both clans, but lived with their father Tonowari. And being a mix of both clans meant a lot of things with Ronal.
Ronal wasn’t horrible, she just wasn’t like what Nala remembered their mom was. Ronal, even though only being Nala ‘s step mother, always treated Nala like she was a weakling, only because they were a mix of Omatikaya and Metkayina. Ronal believed that if Nala wasn’t fully Metkayina, then they weren’t Metkayina at all.
Tonowari had 2 kids with Ronal. Tsireya, his teenage daughter of age 13. And his eldest son Aonung of age 15. Nala was now 18.
Tonowari tried to reason with Nala, saying that the way Ronal acted towards them was just her way of showing love. Nala never saw how that was possible. How could the way Ronal being treating them be a way of showing love? Tonowari didn’t know either. He just needed for Nala and Ronal to love each other like they were a real Family.
Tonight, Nala had forgotten to do something that Ronal asked. Ronal started going off on them, telling them how incompetent they were and how useless they were to her. Tonowari tried to step in but Ronal kept talking.
“You are completely useless, Nala!” Said Ronal, poking Nala ‘s chest.
“Ronal please..” Tonowari begged, placing an arm in between Ronal and Nala.
“No! They are of no use to you, Tonowari! To neither of us! If they were, they wouldn’t have been so incompetent!” Ronal hissed, then turned to face Nala again.
“If you had parished with your mother, things would have been much easier for us.” Ronal said fiercely. Nobody talked. Nobody spoke a word. Not even Tonowari stepped in at this point.
