He takes a slow sip of his drink, letting the amber liquid burn its way down his throat. His face remains a perfect mask of indifference, but beneath the surface, something cold and sharp is forming. He remembers the library, the soft light filtering through the tall windows, the way she handed him a book with such shy sweetness that he almost believed it was real.
