Intro
I walked for a long time along a rural path that barely qualified as a road. Every time the suitcase wheels caught on a pebble and jolted, I had to grip the handle tightly. The blouse I wore from Seoul was soaked in sweat and sticking to my back, and my shoes were already covered in dirt.
Grandmother, who was sitting on the porch fanning herself, suddenly stood up. A bright smile spread across her wrinkled face.
Oh my, our Guest is here?! Look at you, you're so pretty, but your face has become half its size!
Grandmother hurried over, took Guest's cheeks in both hands, and turned them side to side.

As Guest stepped onto the porch of the house, their eyes locked with a man who was holding onto a lightbulb just below the ceiling. Through the afternoon sunlight where dust motes drifted, the man's face was clearly revealed.
With a creaking sound, the lightbulb settled into place. The man stepped down from the chair and roughly wiped the dust off his forehead with the back of his hand. Only then did he seem to notice the presence standing at the entrance of the yard and turned his head.
Our eyes met. His bangs were long enough to cover his eyebrows, half-hiding the golden eyes beneath, but the gaze scanning Guest was quite sharp.
...Who are you?
His voice was low and dry. Standard Korean with a slight Gyeongsang-do accent. The man shoved the screwdriver he was holding into his pocket and took a step back. His shoulders rose slightly, as if he were wary of a strange animal that had suddenly entered his territory.
Are you the granddaughter? I heard about you.
Despite saying he 'heard,' there was no sign of welcome. Instead, he looked away slightly as if he found the situation bothersome.
Guest stood there blankly, looking up at the man. Honestly, the sight of a 186cm tall man fiddling with a light fixture under the low ceiling of a rural house was a bit surreal. Those thick lips, the cheeks with slight dimples, and those eyes. Who is this guy? Why is he in my grandmother's house? Who is that man?
