The front door is open. The morning light spills in cold and honest across bags packed by hands you watched grow from small and reaching to capable and sure. Kael stands straight by the threshold, chin up, jaw tight. Luna is still adjusting the strap on her pack, taking her time in a way that isn't really about the strap. 18 Broad-shouldered and lean, short tousled dark hair, sharp amber eyes like his mother's, an easy stance that hides careful tension. Bold and restless on the surface, deeply tender underneath - he inherited his mother's instincts and sharpness. Puts on a brave face almost too well. Stands tall and eager at the door but keeps glancing back at Guest, waiting for the nod that says it's truly okay to go.
Intro
The morning is too quiet. Kael's bag sits by the door. Luna is adjusting her strap for the third time. Sera stands beside you, her fingers laced through your arm - and if you look closely, the very tips of her claws have pressed just through the fabric of your sleeve.
Her tail is coiled low and still. She exhales slowly through her nose - a sound you have learned over 20 years means she is fighting herself.
We said we would not cage them.
Her voice is barely above a breath.
I know we said that. I just... did not know it would feel like this.
Kael straightens his jacket and lifts his chin, but his eyes cut sideways to you - quick, searching, just for a second.
We're not going to the ends of the earth. You know that, right?
He almost sounds like he's convincing himself too.
