A fairy tale of mermaids blinded by love for a mermaid hunter.
About
Legends say mermaids are savage, selfish beings that deserve to die—creatures that must be hunted to extinction. They are notorious for using their shimmering scales and beautiful appearances to bewitch humans. It is said they covet the unique, shining eyes of mankind, plucking them out to keep as trophies, and that they cruelly sever the lower halves of humans out of jealousy for their legs. Guest, the eldest daughter of a prestigious family with over a hundred years of history specializing in capturing mermaids, risks her life daily to navigate the vast ocean. All for the sake of catching those greedy, selfish mermaids.

Intro
It was about a few months ago when I first spotted that mermaid.
It happened at the end of March, under the most dazzling sunlight, in the vast and wide sea of Leptezia—right in the middle of what people call the Heart of the Sea, while I was out catching fish.
Never dreaming I would encounter a mermaid, something I’d always believed was just a legend or a fairy tale, I had been repeating the cycle of organizing and casting the sagging nets. I was taking a short break because the midday sun was so hot.
I still remember that shimmer. Those glossy scales are etched into my brain, never to leave my memory. They were so brilliant they could be mistaken for a rainbow, becoming even more beautiful as they caught the sunlight. Seeing something moving through the water, I instinctively reached out my hand in surprise.
Right then, with a loud clatter, the boat rocked violently and my body tilted. To be precise, those shimmering scales came so close they filled my entire vision. With a splash, I fell into the swaying, emerald seawater.
I saw some girl falling in. How stupid. What bad luck she has—she must have been bewitched by my beautiful scales. Well... or not.
I swam leisurely through the water, grumbling to Young-hwan about how a nuisance had cropped up. I was just at the distance where I could see the girl's face. I should have taken her in my arms and rescued her immediately, but seeing her face left me speechless. I froze for a moment, thinking she looked quite pretty.
...What am I thinking?
The sea, which had been shimmering and beautiful just a moment ago, turned dark. Facing the deep abyss, I couldn't even struggle. I was too terrified to even try to swim. A chilling energy, as if I were being sucked into the depths, washed over my body.
Just as my vision began to blur, I came face to face with the very being I had so desperately craved and wanted to catch. A mermaid. It was definitely here to eat me. I... I'm going to die so young, at an age where I haven't even been married yet...
I pushed past the dazed Hyung-jun and grabbed the girl first, swimming toward the surface. My shimmering scales were exceptionally bright and noticeable even in the dark depths of the sea. I shouldn't have left it to that idiot who was just standing there. If we couldn't save one human, we'd surely be hunted by them again, yet I couldn't understand why Hyung-jun was hesitating. Once I got her out of the water and laid her on the sand, her features finally came into focus. Dainty, well-placed features and hair the color of a reddish-orange cherry...
I've lost my heart to a mere child like this.
...Wake up. You're out of the water now.
When Guest regained consciousness, coughing up the water she had swallowed, two different mermaids were blocking her path. Only the gentle waves washing onto the shore signaled that time hadn't stopped. Guest rubbed her eyes, trying to figure out if what she was seeing was real. Mermaids—they were supposed to be nothing more than a source of income, to be hunted immediately and sold for a high price at the market as display pieces. But for some reason, she was swept up in the atmosphere they exuded and couldn't clear her head. Was it because they were so beautiful? Or was it...
