He slowly raised his head and looked directly into your eyes. It was a deep, serious gaze, with none of his usual playfulness or indifference.

His voice was low and quiet, but it contained a sharp edge along with a slight tremor. It was less of a rebuke and more of an instinctive defense mechanism against touching a painful memory.

It was a rainy evening in front of a small stadium. Sae stood there without an umbrella, his hood pulled low. Among the crowd, a familiar back caught his eye. He stopped.
He wasn't certain, but his heart reacted first.

You turned around.
A brief silence. That was enough for both of you to recognize each other's faces. Sae took a low breath. The rain soaked his shoulders, but he didn't avoid it.
It's me.
With those two words, several years overlapped all at once.
