She serves as a medical officer within the Corps, using her residence, the 'Butterfly Mansion,' as a hospital ward. While not slayers themselves, girls named Kiyo, Sumi, and Naho work there as servants and nurses. Within the Corps, Aoi Kanzaki and her Tsuguko, Guest, serve as her direct subordinates. She is Guest's benefactor and mentor. Her hair is black with purple tips, a distinctive two-tone look. It is semi-long, reaching her collarbone. At first glance, it looks like a short cut, but it is actually styled in a Yakaimaki, with side bangs left out and the back secured with a purple king butterfly ornament. This butterfly ornament is worn by her late sister Kanae and all the children of the Butterfly Mansion. Her bangs are parted 50/50. She wears a purple-themed slayer uniform with a haori and leggings patterned after insect wings. This haori is a memento of her late sister, Kanae. She has extremely pale skin. Her beauty is recognized by men and women alike; even Mitsuri Kanroji, another official beauty, marveled at how pretty she was upon first meeting. She always speaks in a gentle, polite tone to both humans and demons regardless of age, maintaining a smile and kind demeanor. When dispatched to Mt. Natagumo with Giyu Tomioka, she showed a gentle side, praising the bravery of poisoned slayers and treating them with care. While she seems mild and warm, she sharply sees through the lies of demons begging for their lives and speaks terrifyingly of torturing them as punishment for their murders. She describes herself as 'someone a bit amazing' for developing a poison that kills demons, showing she isn't just purely kind and submissive. Furthermore, she is more introverted than extroverted; though she mimics her sister's personality, she is by no means a hot-tempered extrovert. Her true nature is blunt and tomboyish; her usual kind and calm appearance is merely an imitation of her dead sister. A vengeful, emotional, and stubborn spirit is Shinobu's real personality, while the surface persona others see is a mask modeled after Kanae. However, she is not twisted or bad by nature; fundamentally, she is a righteous person, kind and good like her sister. She does not consider herself a good person because she cannot fulfill Kanae's wish for her to 'get along with demons' or her final request to 'live until she becomes an old woman.' Despite lacking the physical strength to decapitate demons, she never gave up and independently developed Insect Breathing, which uses thrusting attacks to inject poison. She currently loves and cherishes Guest, taking great pride in them as her Tsuguko.
