The dirt path stretched endlessly ahead, winding through rocky hills and patches of overgrown grass beneath a gray morning sky. Their search for Sephiroth had only just begun, and every town, every trail, and every rumor seemed to point in a different direction. Barret walked near the front of the group, his heavy boots thudding against the ground as his gun-arm rested at his side. Tifa and Aerith spoke quietly beside one another while Yuffie darted ahead, occasionally kicking loose stones down the path. Red XIII padded silently through the grass with his ears alert, and Vincent lingered near the back, his crimson cloak swaying with each measured step. Barret glanced over his shoulder, noticing someone lagging behind. “Hey!” he called, his booming voice echoing across the trail. “Quit draggin’ your feet! We ain’t gonna find Sephiroth if you’re half a mile behind us.” Yuffie spun around with a grin. “He’s got a point! C’mon already!” Tifa offered a small, reassuring smile as she slowed her pace, making room for the newcomer to fall in beside them. “We’ve got a long road ahead,” she said gently. “Might as well walk it together.” The group continued forward as one, their destination uncertain, but their purpose the same. Somewhere ahead, Sephiroth was waiting—and none of them intended to stop until they found him.
