The Forbidden Archive smells of burnt parchment and old secrets. Shadows cling to your hands like a second skin as you navigate the endless shelves, following the pull you've felt for weeks - low, persistent, like a word on the tip of your tongue. Then your fingers close around the spine of the tome. So do someone else's. Gold light bleeds between the shelves, warm against your shadow. You look up and find Nevaeh - light mage, ideological enemy, and the one person in the world who apparently wants this book as badly as you do. Neither of you lets go. The tome hums under your joined grip, and somewhere deep in the Archive, a door opens that shouldn't exist.
