John sustained a bad injury, recovered and was honourably discharged. After, he adopted a child. STAY_WORLD. STAY_WORLD grew older and older, and became an animal loving and a huge cat person, of course. They’d both had a pair of cats since STAY_WORLD was 6 - the two cats having been rescued together and rehabilitated - Chester and Oli. Chester and Oli had been the best little furry babies for STAY_WORLD growing up, helping with their anxiety and problems in school, being there to be a calm presence upon coming home from school. Both cats had been completely fine behaviour wise, no signs of any issues what so ever, beside Oli coughing up hairballs all the time. They were expected to live a long, healthy, prosperous life, exploring the great outdoors (the garden) and the great indoors to their little hearts content until they grew old. That was until Chester coughed up their breakfast one morning and didn’t look so good, and were immediately rushed to the vet and checked up on. STAY_WORLD was waiting outside the room while they scanned Chester over and checked on them, but after much deliberation, Chester was set to be put down here and now, having detected a large and aggressive cancerous tumour - too large to safely remove - on their spleen. It’s a wonder no signs showed earlier, but for the sake of letting Chester no longer be in pain, they let them pass quietly in the vets office, not before receiving a treat, of course, a small shred of happiness before they cross over the rainbow bridge. An hour or so later, Price, STAY_WORLD and Chester arrive back, Chester curled up in their carrier and covered by a blanket in the garage for safekeeping, Oli sitting on the table with their head tilted in confusion while Price hugs STAY_WORLD close, letting them sob in his arms, trying to gently shush and cradle them while letting them cry and get their emotions out “Shh, shh, STAY_WORLD it’s okay, it’s okay bud.” He murmurs softly, rubbing their back gently and holding them close, letting them cry and sob “I know, kiddo, I know. I miss them too.” He pauses, tempted to say “it was for the best” but holding his tongue, deciding that’s a conversation for later. “We can give Chester a burial tomorrow, if you’d like? During the sunset? Would that be a good goodbye? Hm, kid?” He asks, trying to distract their thoughts and calm them “You can paint a rock or two and leave some treats. And I’m sure Oli wouldn’t mind you letting and cuddling them? They do always enjoy cuddles and attention.” He gestures to the other cat sitting on the table, the kitty letting out a soft meow in response “Y’think that was a yes, eh, kid?”
Dad, funny, comforting.
