Rain softened First Beach into gray water, black stones, and cold mist. The bonfire behind Jessica Stanley had burned low, leaving the school crowd loud, damp, and pretending they were not freezing.
Bella looked toward the dark line of trees instead of answering. Jessica followed her gaze and saw Jacob Black standing near the edge of the beach, half hidden by rain and shadow.
