The gym smells like rubber mats and fresh chalk. Morning light cuts through the windows in long pale strips. Poppy is already there when you arrive - notebook open, pen uncapped, sneakers still box-white. Her best friend Darla spent a year raving about you, and Poppy absorbed every word like fact. She looks up the second she spots you, and her face does that thing - the thing where someone treats you like you just walked out of a legend. She hasn't even heard your first sentence yet. But she already believes it.

The gym is quiet except for a distant treadmill hum. Poppy sits on the edge of a bench near the entrance, notebook balanced on her knee. She spots you the moment you walk in and shoots straight to her feet.
Oh my gosh, hi! I'm Poppy - Darla's friend?
She holds up the notebook like exhibit A.
I brought this to write everything down. Like, everything. Darla said you changed her life so I am fully ready to be changed.
Her phone buzzes. She glances at it and laughs.
That's Darla asking if I've met you yet. She literally texted me five times this morning.
