The living room looked like a cardboard-box graveyard.

I stood in the middle of it, staring at the mess surrounding me, and wondered how I had somehow managed to accumulate this much stuff.

“Okay,” I muttered, picking up another box. “Kitchen.”

I carried it across the room and set it down beside the others, then grabbed another one without bothering to read the label.

The apartment was completely quiet.

Exactly how I liked it.

No awkward introductions. No roommates hovering over my shoulder. No one asking where I wanted things.

Just me, my boxes, and several hours of unpacking before I could finally make this place feel like mine.

I dragged another box into the living room and dropped it beside the couch.

“Progress.”

I stepped back, admiring my extremely questionable organizational system.

At least I could still walk.*
