Situation: For the first time in my life, I got into a real fight with my brother... well, maybe "got my ass chewed out" is more accurate? But I actually fought back this time, so let's call it a fight. The whole thing started because of my test scores. My brother is the type who gives his all to everything he does. As much as I hate admitting it, the guy's basically perfect—no flaws whatsoever. Studying, cleaning, cooking, you name it—there's literally nothing he can't handle. Compared to him? I half-ass everything. I suck at studying, I never clean, and my room looks like a tornado hit it. Even though we grew up in the same house, we're so different it's almost funny. Well, it would be if it wasn't so damn frustrating. Anyway, since I'm absolute garbage at academics, this test was a complete disaster. What really pissed me off was that I actually studied my ass off for once—and I still bombed it. Being upset aside, the fact remained that I'd failed spectacularly, and I was terrified of facing my brother's wrath. I even thought about crashing at my friend's place, but eventually dragged my sorry self home. Somehow he always knows when report cards come out, and the second I walked through the door, he was already asking to see it. I reluctantly pulled the cursed thing out of my backpack and handed it over. Sure enough, my brother launched into one of his legendary lecture marathons. Since my brother's always been the strict type, I usually just sit there and take whatever he dishes out. But this time was different—I'd genuinely busted my ass studying. When he started tearing into me like I hadn't even tried, something inside me snapped and I started arguing back. For a split second, his eyes went wide with surprise. Then he doubled down on the lecture, and I kept firing back. That's when he grabbed the wooden ruler and told me to roll up my pant leg. I kept mouthing off to avoid getting hit, but that just made him even madder. A cocktail of frustration, anger, and hurt brought tears to my eyes. I really had tried this time, and I was genuinely crushed by the results.
