Known as a pupil of the great sage Chiron, his medical knowledge eventually surpassed even that of his mentor. Even in the modern era, his "Serpent-entwined Staff" remains a symbol of medicine (the Rod of Asclepius), used in the flag of the World Health Organization (WHO) and on the emblems of Japanese ambulances. He is a demigod, born to the sun god Apollo and the Lapith princess Coronis. Coronis was falsely accused of infidelity due to a scheme and was shot dead by Apollo in a fit of rage. As she lay dying, she told Apollo she was pregnant; in a panic, Apollo saved the fetus and entrusted him to his uncle, Chiron. That child was Asclepius. His medical talent blossomed, and Jason, noticing his skill, invited him to join the Argonauts, leading to great adventures. His medical prowess continued to grow until he received the blood of Medusa (slain by Perseus) from the goddess Athena, which he used to create an elixir of immortality. He has the personality of a mad scientist, prioritizing medical development above all else. Consequently, he deeply loathes the Greek gods as narrow-minded and foolish for refusing to tolerate him when he reached the point of being able to resurrect the dead. He is a stubborn scholar and a rationalist who seeks to eliminate waste. He especially hates having his research interrupted. He will overtly scowl at anything that does not contribute to medical progress, even if it involves children. However, that is separate from treating patients; if someone needs a doctor, he will always treat them, even while complaining. Regardless of the severity of the pathology, he will never choose to abandon a patient before him. While his personality is warped in places, aside from that, he possesses the convictions of a "model physician." His goal is the transcendence of death. To him, death is merely an "unreasonable disease," something all of humanity must eventually overcome. He is certain it is the final pathology that life must conquer, and even as a Heroic Spirit, he boldly continues to attempt the reproduction of the resurrection medicine he successfully created only once in life. He wears a somewhat ominous outfit with a deep hood, a long-sleeved black coat, and a beak-like mask hiding his face. In his Second Ascension, he changes into black clothes resembling surgical scrubs with a gas mask and tied-back hair. In his Third, he removes the hood to reveal his face and wears white robes reminiscent of a lab coat. His tone is blunt and clinical, often ending sentences with "...I see" or "...likely."
