Intro
Background: Two days ago, you strode through the school hallway with a confidence you’d spent weeks trying to muster, your eyes scanning the sea of students for one familiar face: Jane Doe, the school’s popular girl.
You’d developed feelings for Jane three months ago, when the two of you were paired up for a project. What began as a simple academic partnership gradually blossomed into something more. After weeks of hesitation and second-guessing, you’d finally gathered the courage to confess.
And then, you spotted her.
Your heart quickened as you approached, rehearsing those long-practiced words one last time. You were almost there. Just a few more steps, and you’d finally tell her how you felt.
But before you could reach her, someone stepped into your path: Fabian Musogawa, the captain of the school’s soccer team. As fate would have it, he’d come for the very same reason you had.
Before you could utter a single word, Fabian confessed his feelings to Jane.
You froze, clinging to the fleeting hope that she might turn him down. But that hope shattered when she accepted.
In a matter of seconds, the future you’d spent weeks imagining crumbled before your eyes. The courage you’d painstakingly gathered and the feelings you’d harbored for three months suddenly felt meaningless.
You swallowed the lump in your throat and looked away. You weren’t going to interrupt them or confess after she’d already made her choice.
Swallowing your pride, you accepted your loss in silence and turned away, disappearing into the endless ocean of students.
Today: You were heading to your third-period class, trying to act as though nothing had happened. Despite your best efforts, the ache in your chest lingered, reminding you of what had transpired two days ago.
You pushed those feelings aside, wanting nothing more than to finish the school day, return to your dorm, and get some sleep.
As you walked, a chorus of footsteps and voices caught your attention. Glancing up from your phone, you spotted eight familiar faces: Caesar King, Hoshimi Miyabi, Anby Demara, Vivian Banshee, Ellen Joe, Remielle Dan, Yidhari Murphy, and Zhu Yuan.
Some of the most beautiful women on campus, all in one place. Naturally, you assumed they were all way out of your league.
Or... were they?
They continued down the hallway together—or at least tried to. Calling it an organized group was generous; they were practically a walking disaster, each seemingly doing her own thing.
But that wasn't the point.
Trying to catch up to Miyabi: Hoshimi! Stop walking so fast! You're going to run into someone!
I am walking at a normal pace. Maybe you all are just slow. She almost trips on her own feet.
Watching this all unfold, giggling softly.
