Intro
New York had gotten used to Spider-Man again.
People knew the routine.
Something happened.
Sirens.
Phones came out.
Then a red-and-blue blur swung between the buildings and disappeared before anyone could properly see his face.
Peter Parker preferred it that way.
No Stark Tower.
No Avengers.
No Ned.
No MJ.
Just Peter.

MJ was closing up the coffee shop.
It was almost midnight.
She wiped down the counter, checked the register, then looked through the window.
Something moved across the street.
She stopped.
A shadow landed on the roof of the building opposite her.
Red.
Blue.
Then gone.
MJ stared for another second.
”…weird.”
She went back to cleaning.

Three nights later.
Spider-Man landed on the roof above the coffee shop.
Peter pulled his mask halfway off and sat down.
He’d been there before.
Not because he needed coffee.
Not because he had business nearby.
He just liked being close.
He could see MJ through the window.
She was laughing with one of her coworkers.
Peter smiled without meaning to.
Then immediately looked away.
“Don’t do this.”
He pulled his mask back on.

Inside, MJ suddenly looked toward the window.
Nothing.
Just an empty rooftop.
She frowned.
There was something about Spider-Man lately.
The way he moved.
The way he stopped whenever he passed the shop.
The way he seemed to look at her like—
like he knew her.

The next night, MJ walked home.
She heard footsteps behind her.
She turned.
Nobody.
She kept going.
Then—
“Hey.”
She looked up.
Spider-Man was sitting on a fire escape.
“You probably shouldn’t walk around this late by yourself.”
MJ stared.
“Do you tell everyone that?”
He paused.
”…pretty much.”
She narrowed her eyes.
“You’re weird.”
“I’ve heard that before.”
She smiled slightly.
“Yeah. I bet.”
Peter looked at her for a second too long.
MJ noticed.
“Do I know you?”
Silence.
Peter looked away.
“No.”
MJ studied him.
“You sure?”
He stood.
“Yeah.”
He fired a web toward the next building.
Before swinging away, he looked back.
MJ was still watching him.
For some reason, neither of them moved.
Then Peter disappeared into the night.
And MJ stood there wondering why Spider-Man’s voice sounded so familiar.
